Overview
I developed this scenario-based concept module for two primary reasons:
To accomplish this, I planned the learning objectives for the module, set goals for using the xAPI data, wrote the scenario, sourced the visuals, and developed the final product.
Instructional Design
To design and align, I wrote learning objectives, described the scenario as practice, and identified the must-know content topics . This helped me determine exactly what I wanted people to be able to do at the end.
With the learning objectives, I sourced content to support the objectives from online publications, and wrote a scenario with multiple pathways. This would allow learners to practice and receive feedback on their choices.
eLearning Development
To develop the scenario, I wrote the conversation and outlined the pathways and points using a visual pathways tool, MindManager.
I developed this scenario-based concept module for two primary reasons:
- I was eager to create something with xAPI, a recent specification that would allow me to collect data about a range of learning experiences
- Current work in performance management shows the value of a growth mindset for employees learning from challenging experiences and setting learning goals
To accomplish this, I planned the learning objectives for the module, set goals for using the xAPI data, wrote the scenario, sourced the visuals, and developed the final product.

eLearning Development
To develop the scenario, I wrote the conversation and outlined the pathways and points using a visual pathways tool, MindManager.
To build the module in Articulate Storyline, I used a free template sourced from their templates library for a scenario and customized using Master Slides and built in characters.
To create an xAPI data plan for the module, I outlined learner decision points with MindManager.
To collect xAPI data from the Articulate Storyline module, I exported the data plan to Excel and merged them with a form to create compatible xAPI statements.
Conclusion
Overall, this project was a great opportunity to implement a SCORM-like technology to improve scenarios and gather data across platforms.
