6/17/2020 0 Comments Getting startedI saw the value for me. I started studying for the CPTD certifications several weeks ago, about 6 if I were counting. As a counting type of individual, I've been jotting notes of my journey as a reflective practice and also so that I would remember which decisions worked well for me, and which didn't. The first step was deciding to take the leap and sign up for the exam. In early May, I thoroughly read about the changes to the ATD certification. It had been revised for the new capability model, and included an updated certification name: CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) to CPTD (Certified Professional in Talent Development). I saw the value for me at this point in time:
And! I would have time this summer to study. Using the CPTD Study Planning Guide, I checked my readiness with the Gap Assessment: Using the same Planning Guide, I added up the hours I would need for each section to be ready. My proficiency in Section 1.1 was high, and the guide estimated it would take 3 hours to study it. I expected to take less time to study sections where my proficiency was higher and to take the full time to study the areas that I didn't know as well. I should be ready by the end of June! The humor in that is that now mid-June, it's clear that I needed more time. The Pilot package for the exam included a Talent Development Book of Knowledge (TDBoK), supplemental books, the exam, and free retest. Since I would be paying for this on my own, the cost savings during a time when I have the study time was enough to push me over the edge. I signed up for one of the earliest available test dates in August.
